PTG200.2 : Sketchbook: Introductory Drawing
Description:
This course is designed for students wishing to learn or improve the basic techniques of drawing. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles and elements of drawing as well as major techniques and media. These include: gesture, measurement and proportion, perspective, tone, contour, composition mark-making and texture, with media being pencil, charcoal, and ink. An important aspect of the course is learning from and documenting the rich cultural heritage of Florence. As a result, we will be working extensively on site throughout Florence sketching from galleries, museums, markets and piazze. A course fee will be billed from Syracuse to cover the cost of models and/or studio supplies (2009-10 fee = $150). Students may need or want to purchase other materials more suited to individual selection (such as specialty papers and tools). Fall semester students will also travel to Venice for the Biennale with an additional fee of $130 billed from Syracuse. Limited enrollment, with preference given to students admitted to Studio Art Program.
