FIA300.1 : Performance Live: London
Description:
Study of the varieties of music, styles of performance, and social traditions of music unique to and currently represented in London’s musical life. Uses the richness and diversity of concerts, opera and other musical events in London as a basis for stimulating interest in classical music (classical in the wide sense of “art” music from all periods) and for sharpening and deepening students’ aural, intellectual, and emotional responses to music. Seeks to improve listening skills. Involves study of different textural, structural and formal principles and models and the exploration of stylistic, cultural, social and historical backgrounds to music heard. Weekly attendance at musical events is required. Course fee will be billed from Syracuse to cover cost of tickets (2009-10 fee = $275).
