Description:

From the early 15th to the 17th century, the Medici transformed themselves from an upstart banking family living in modest town houses to Grand Dukes reigning over all of Tuscany out of urban palaces and country villas. Particular attention to the diverse artistic media the Medici favored and to how they encouraged integration of artistic, religious, humanistic and political interests in the works of artists. Includes an overnight trip to Rome, day trips to Medici Villas and Prato, and site visits. A course-related fee ($260 for Spring 2010) will be billed from Syracuse. Students who choose to participate in an optional four-day study tour to Paris will pay the fee in Florence with a credit card (amount of fee announced in Florence). Prereq: at least one course in art history beyond the introductory level or consent of the instructor. Cross-listed with FIA 418.
