FIN400.1 : London’s Financial Markets
Description:
Explains workings of London's financial markets and explores challenges and opportunities facing one of the world's most important financial centres. Discusses substantial changes seen in its money, capital and risk-management markets by reference to: challenges of
globalization and opportunities they present to the "City"; the all-engulfing information technology revolution and its impact on traditional ways of trading and conducting financial business; regulatory and trading challenges the current global financial turmoil presents to the City's stability, trust and confidence in its wholesale money and capital markets. Site visits to London's major financial institutions, including the Bank of England, the London Stock Exchange, Lloyd's of London insurance market, and the trading floors of leading stockbrokers and market-makers will enable students to observe traders at work, speak directly to market makers and see "live-market trades" being executed. A course fee will be billed from Syracuse to cover costs of site visits (2009-10 fee = $240).
Enrollment priority is given first to finance majors and second to economic majors who indicate their interest on the application form and list this course among their first choice courses on the SU Abroad course request form; .
