FIA400.1 : London Museums: Art, History & Science in Contemporary Culture
Description:
This survey of London’s many world-class museums examines not only the collections, architecture, and approaches to interpretation of these institutions of culture, but also considers wide-ranging contemporary issues within the larger museum world. The course considers the history of London museums, many of their chief treasures, their efforts to build audiences from the diverse cultures that enrich the city, and their relationships to the media. Weekly visits, in groups and individually, will include of museums of fine art, decorative art, contemporary art, science, history, and ethnology, among others.
Enrollment limited. This course is not open to students taking FIA 301 or FIA 305, except for FIA majors or minors by permission.
