Course Description

APH200.1 : Beginning Digital Photography

Description:

This course starts with an overview of traditional cameras, lenses, settings, exposure for a smooth transition to JPEG, TIFF, importing, storing and printing. Photoshop software is used as an "editing" digital darkroom, with an emphasis on cropping, contrast, curves and levels, color adjustment, scanning and printing. Design basics are the structure of the visual part: playing with light, perspective, frame, and shape. Students must provide their own digital camera with manual settings (better SLR cameras). A course fee to cover certain supplies and site visits in Florence will be billed from Syracuse (2009-10 fee = $305). Fall semester students will also participate in a trip to Venice for the Biennale with an additional fee of $130 billed from Syracuse.
