SECTION B-I:
ARTS AND SCIENCES STUDENTS ONLY
Studio Arts Students complete Section B-II
Arch/Pre-Arch Students complete Section B-III

Living Arrangements: After several days in your orientation hotel, you will be placed in private homes. The homestay is an integral part of the program and encourages active participation in Italian life. Our hosts reflect the diversity of Italian households and include parents with children, professionals with and without children, widows and retired couples whose children are no longer at home, and other combinations. Some hosts live closer to the Florence Center than others, so you will probably need to take public transportation for your commute to the Center. Continental breakfast is provided 7 days a week and supper is provided 5 days a week (12 meals weekly).

Students are placed in private homes, in most cases two to a home. If you do not wish to have a roommate, please state that clearly on Section A of this form. If you have a friend in the program with whom you would like to share a room, please indicate your friend’s name.

Friend’s name for sharing housing:

(Please note: Placement with friends will be honored only if the other student also mentions you on his/her housing request. We cannot provide coed housing accommodations in private homes.)
By submitting this form, I certify that I understand and agree to the fact that, in an effort to acheive an appropriate homestay situation for students, SU Abroad may share this form (or the information on this form) with my host family.

Request for Housing Exemption: Syracuse University Abroad considers homestays an integral part of our program and a curricular necessity. Arts and Sciences students will be excused from our host housing under extraordinary circumstances only. If you wish to live independently, you will need to submit letters from your parent or guardian AND study abroad adviser approving your choice for independent housing.

I would like to be excused from Syracuse University housing and will make my own independent housing arrangements

Additional Information for Architecture and Pre-Architecture Students

Meals: Twice a semester you will receive a meal allowance of 700 euros to partially cover lunch expenses. You are responsible for the rest of your meals and should budget at least $2,000 for food.

Rent and Leases: SU Abroad pays your landlord or landlady directly from your program fee for your rent and utilities (telephone not included.) SU Abroad leases apartments for the semester. If you wish a longer lease, you must pay rent from your personal funds.

Security Deposit: When you sign your lease, you will be asked for a security deposit of about $400. You will be given funds from your first food allowance to pay your security deposit. Your deposit will be returned to you at the end of the semester if there are no damages, excessive utility bills, or unpaid phone bills. Approximately 35 euros will be deducted from the deposit for cleaning charges. You must fill out a checklist with the landlord/landlady before moving in to list damages and soiled items. Be sure to go over the checklist before you vacate the apartment.

Request for Housing Exemption

Architecture students who would normally be placed in Syracuse-arranged apartments may elect to find their own housing in Florence. You will be on your own to find an apartment and make all arrangements. Please understand that this may be very difficult if you do not speak Italian; however, if you choose this option, we will credit your account for the housing portion of your program fee.

I DO NOT wish to be accommodated by Syracuse University for housing and will make my own independent housing arrangements.

By submitting this form, I certify that I understand and agree to the fact that, in an effort to achieve an appropriate homestay situation for students, SU Abroad may share this form (or the information on this form) with my host family.
