Additional Information for Architecture and Pre-Architecture Students
Meals: Twice a semester you will receive a meal allowance of 700 euros to partially cover lunch expenses. You are responsible for the rest of your meals and should budget at least $2,000 for food.
Rent and Leases: SU Abroad pays your landlord or landlady directly from your program fee for your rent and utilities (telephone not included.) SU Abroad leases apartments for the semester. If you wish a longer lease, you must pay rent from your personal funds.
Security Deposit: When you sign your lease, you will be asked for a security deposit of about $400. You will be given funds from your first food allowance to pay your security deposit. Your deposit will be returned to you at the end of the semester if there are no damages, excessive utility bills, or unpaid phone bills. Approximately 35 euros will be deducted from the deposit for cleaning charges. You must fill out a checklist with the landlord/landlady before moving in to list damages and soiled items. Be sure to go over the checklist before you vacate the apartment.
Request for Housing Exemption
Architecture students who would normally be placed in Syracuse-arranged apartments may elect to find their own housing in
Florence. You will be on your own to find an apartment and make all arrangements. Please understand that this may be very difficult
if you do not speak Italian; however, if you choose this option, we will credit your account for the housing portion of your program
fee.
I DO NOT wish to be accommodated by Syracuse University for housing and will make my own independent housing arrangements.
