The Syracuse University Madrid Program is a homestay program. You will be expected to abide by the norms SU-Madrid has established for housing students in Spanish households. These norms will be discussed during orientation and include such issues as courtesies, privileges and expectations with regard to your behavior, use of telephone, shower, laundry, meals, etc. Please be advised, most of our housing is located some distance away from our school facilities. Like most Madrid residents who live in the city, students will have a 20-35 minute commute by public transportation.
Opting Out of SU Living Arrangements: Syracuse University Abroad considers homestays an integral part of our program and a curricular necessity. Students will be excused from our host housing under extraordinary circumstances only. If you wish to live independently, you will need to submit a letter from your parent or guardian as well as a letter from the study abroad office at your home college approving your choice for independent housing. You must have compelling reasons for wishing to live independently. If you check the box below, we will send you a letter with more details on this option.
If you know of Syracuse/Madrid housing recommended by former students and would like to be placed there, please indicate the host name and address.
*Note: Strict vegetarianism is not a widespread custom in Spain. We will do our best to locate households that may be willing and can provide vegetarian diets.
Please indicate any special requests that may help the Housing Coordinator in Spain find you a suitable household:
Please indicate any special housing needs you may have during the group travel portions of the program
In submitting this form, I understand that, in an effort to achieve an appropriate homestay situation for students, SU Abroad may share this form (or the information on this form) with my host family.
