Don't let financial concerns stand in the way of your plans to study abroad.
Take advantage of all the options available to you through Syracuse University.
How Much Can I Borrow?
Financial aid programs available to students studying through Syracuse University Abroad in the summer are limited. Students are eligible to borrow through the Federal Stafford Student Loan Program. You may also borrow thorough with a Plus loan or an Alternative Loan.
The amount undergraduate students may borrow is based on the number of credits they have completed before the beginning of the summer program. Contact the Financial Aid office at your home institution to find out how much you may borrow.
Applying for a Study Abroad Grant
We offer study abroad grants on the basis of need. The grants range from $500 to $2,000.
Syracuse University Matriculated Students
Students matriculated at Syracuse University must apply for their loans through the Financial Aid Office on main campus. All students applying for assistance for the summer should follow the application procedures for applying for financial aid. This includes completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Syracuse University financial aid application. Additional information and applications for summer financial aid will be available at the Financial Aid Office.
Syracuse University students please contact the Syracuse University Financial Aid Office at 315-443-1513 for information on how to apply for a summer loan. Or Email finmail@syr.edu.
Non-Syracuse University Students
Students matriculated at colleges and universities other than Syracuse University may be eligible to receive financial assistance through their home colleges. Before applying to a summer study abroad program, students should contact their home college financial aid officer regarding their institution's policies. In some cases, the home college will agree to process financial aid for its students.
If the home college refuses to process financial aid for the summer term, Syracuse University may be able to process the student's aid if the student's home school agrees to sign a consortium agreement with Syracuse University.
For detailed steps for this process, please contact the SU Abroad at 1-800-235-3472.
